Who I Look Up To
Everyone has someone that they look up to, whether it be a superhero, a parent, or a musician. The person I look up to is my best friend, Cody. He has been through a lot and always puts everyone first even if he isn’t happy. He’s the most fun person to be around, especially if you’re having a bad day, he’ll manage to make you smile and feel better.
Cody has been in my life for two years now and has already made me become a better person, he pushes me to do better in school and for my life, he isn’t afraid to be blunt with me when I’m wrong or acting childish, and he also is there for me to comfort me when I’m not having a good day. He has been there through just about every single hard time I’ve had in my life, whether it be me being homeless, dropping out of school, and also coming back to school to graduate. He has supported me through everything. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for him by my side supporting me through all of my decisions.
I remember a year and a half ago when I dropped out, he didn’t give up on me like everyone else did, he helped me through it and supported me going to Clark College instead of putting me down like everyone else. He thought it was a good idea to at least get my GED if I wasn’t able to attend high school. Clark became too easy for me and I ended up not going anymore, or skipping. I ended up moving closer to Heritage, and closer to Cody, I was able to see him more often. I later decided that I would come back to school and get my diploma.
My senior year (this year) I started with eight credits, seniors are supposed to have around 17 ½ or 18 credits at the beginning of the year. I honestly didn’t believe I would graduate on time because of this, but he told me I could do it. All of my time was consumed by school, I went to school for 13 hours a day and then some. He was very understanding when I would get stressed over classes and he would take the time out of his day to help me understand something on one of my online classes. 18 online classes later, I’m on track to graduate, and I have him to thank for that.
No matter what, Cody is always willing to help me through any of my problems, even if he is having his own issues. He is always putting me or others first, he doesn’t let the small things get in the way and ruin his day. I used to let the smallest of things ruin my day, but because of him I move past the small problems in life. Before his dad passed away, he told Cody to “ put one foot in front of the other”, which has really helped me through a lot and to take things more slowly and not rush through life. He has helped me with my depression and I enjoy life more because of him, he taught me how to actually live life and that there’s no point in dwelling on the small things in life, but to enjoy the small things.
